Good Ole' Mason Jars

Good morning to everyone!

It's time to rise and shine for "thrifty" today. Mason jars. Most everyone has a least one or two of these puppies. Maybe you have several different sizes especially if you still can things from your garden. But everyone knows mason jars have moved up a notch or two in the last few years.

You may have been to a wedding or cookout and had your beverage served in a good ole' mason jar. What about all the different ways people are decorating them? Painting the inside as well as the outside for every kind of celebration.

Take for instance Easter. Isn't this the cutest... a jar instead of a basket?
What about Mr. Mason Jar getting all dressed up for the 4th of July?

They can be a vase if you are in a pinch.
They are showing up in the kitchen to hold utensils.

I'm sure the uses for good ole' mason jars are endless. I hope you have gotten some new ideas from these pictures which were copied from Pinterest, one of my favorite time consumers. LOL.

Be blessed this week and remember to keep your eyes open for all things "thrifty."

The Versatile Candle Holder

Glad you all stopped by for a little thrifty note today.

Never underestimate the many uses for your candle holder. This is one of two I got several years ago on the sale table at Kohls. Boy, have I used it in almost every season and special occasion.

Don't take your candle holder for granted. You can put grass and plastic eggs in it for Easter. You can put sand and seashells in it for the summertime. You can put little topiaries and vases with sticks in it for spring or winter. What about putting a tree limb candle holder in it. LOL. You could also put real or fake fruit in it.

Here's the point. If you need a table or mantle decoration to remind you of the season or a reason to celebrate be sure to grab your candle holder and load it up. As a last resort you can always put a candle in it. LOL.

These are some ideas I have used.

I'm sure your thrifty mind is racing with ideas you could use to decorate with your candles holders. Maybe I should have called it a hurricane candle holder. LOL Either way you all get the idea. Just think outside the box. The only thing you have to do is like whatever you put in it. There are no rules.

Be blessed this week and remember to keep your thrifty eyes open for ideas!!

The Incredible Sharpie

Hello and I'm glad you stopped by for a "thrifty" moment.

Today's post is about the incredible sharpie. I don't know who invented it but I am thankful. There are so many uses for this little pen.

Most of the time when we think about a sharpie we think about marking moving boxes or items for kids who are on their way to camp for the summer. Maybe we have used it to mark bags or containers going into the freezer. But don't sell this little fellow short.

Here are some things which the sharpie has given a second chance. My favorite pair of leopard shoes. Oh what a happy camper I am. They will last a while longer and even look sort of new.

How about a scratched up tray someone was throwing out but it just needed Mr. Sharpie to come to the rescue. Really! No one is going to get down and see if there were any marks that have been covered up with my favorite friend.

I'm sure there are many sharpie tales out there about how it has helped us to be "thrifty" folks. Plus unbeknown to me they even come in colors and different sizes. Oh dear!! There is no telling where you will find these in use over at our house. LOL

I hope you all have a great week and remember to stay "Thrifty."

Meet Your New Best Friend

Welcome to Thrifty Sissy!

I want to take a minute to introduce you to your new best friend... the calendar. Oh you are probably laughing at this but couldn't we use a good friend who would help us keep up with our busy lives? Someone who can help us stay on track and give us a visual reminder of our schedule. Well here she is meet your calendar. Now don't turn off the computer just yet.

You may be thinking I have my phone calendar so what do I need with a paper calendar? After all isn't everybody trying to go paperless? It's true we are trying to save the trees but the manufacturers are still making them and businesses are still giving them away. So why not use it to your advantage.

While the phone calendar is great because you always have it with you it's hard for me to get the whole month's information quickly. Things like when was the last time I put the flea medicine on the cat or had the oil changed in the car. Maybe I'm just old school. Some of you "techie" folks are able to keep yourself together better than others. LOL!

Maybe you are good about entering your appointments into your phone or writing them down on your paper calendar so my hat is off to you. But for those who do struggle to keep your "ducks in a row" getting into the habit of listing your business on or in a calendar will make a big difference in your life.

If one of your news year's resolutions is to get organized this is the first building block. The one thing you have to remember... a calendar won't do you any good at all if you don't use it.  It's a new habit just like exercising or drinking more water. Here's hoping you will begin spending time with your new friend.

Take care and stay "Thrifty."

After Christmas Thrifty Idea

Hello Thrifty Ones,
Now I realize we have all put this Christmas decorating thing behind us but let's don't miss a bargain yet. LOL While the Christmas retail designers are now hard at work for the 2017 Christmas tree decorations we can be a little ahead of them.

Here's what I mean. When those new tree decorations hit the aisles of Hobby Lobby in June and we see all that new stuff we will be so excited. We will want to change our tree colors and get some new stuff. But that can cost a fortune as pretty as it is. We have all those sentimental ornaments from years gone by that we can't possibly leave behind. So here is an idea to give your 2017 tree an update without breaking the bank.

Get yourself on over to Hobby Lobby or Joanns and get some wide ribbon to wrap around your tree. Hobby Lobby has some cream colored/gold wire edged ribbon with the names of Jesus on it. By simply adding this kind of ribbon to your tree it can make a big difference.

Updating your tree for this coming Christmas can cost as little as $6.00. That's the cost of this beautiful ribbon regularly priced at $14.99 per roll. It was my first "thrifty" deal of the new year at a whopping 90% off. Six rolls for $1.49 each. Wow!!

Now I'm all set for a new tree look plus I've still got dollars in my purse for the next "thrifty deal."

Blessings to ya'll!!!

Less is More

Good Morning Friends,

I hope this finds everyone doing well having lived through Christmas and the New Year celebrations. It seems when the new year rolls around people begin to focus on all the stuff they have. The retail stores help that along when just as soon as Christmas is over they bring out the storage totes and organization stuff. If you will notice at the check out there are plenty of "how to" storage and get organized" magazines calling to us.

Maybe it's because we got a lot of presents, new clothes and do dads so we have to find a place to put them. Here we go like a Mom who begins to sort through the kids old toys to make room for the new ones. Well, you may need to do some deep purging if you had to get a rolling rack to hang all your extra clothes on or other folks at your house complain about not having any room for their stuff. LOL.

Here's another thought about gifts you receive. A friend of mine set up a gift closet. She gave me a preview of all the things she had been given but either didn't like, already had one of them or didn't need. Wow! What a wonderful idea. She was always prepared for an emergency gift. Now some people think this is awful but when someone gives us something it's their thoughtfulness we appreciate. Regifting could be called the gift that keeps on giving. LOL.

No matter whether you start a gift closet, pass it along to a friend or relative or donate it to a charity less is always more. If you have a lot of things you have to wash, dust or keep moving them around all the time. Who wants to do any of that if they don't have to. Besides the things you need or continue to have to look for could be hiding in your extra stuff.

Happy New Year to everyone and remember to stay "Thrifty this year."
