Goodwill Dump Buys

Hello Everyone!

I know it's been a while since I've posted anything but as we all know life happens and you get busy.  But today I want to share the goodies I bagged at the Goodwill dump. That's what I call the Goodwill Outlet over on Berry Drive in Nashville. I call it the dump because they dump all the stuff in big carts and boxes. If you like a scavenger hunt this is it.

You never know what you will find. Sometimes it's brand new stuff and sometimes it's an oldie but a goodie. Here's a picture of the latest "stuff."

So let me tell you what all I got for $5.08 tax included. The purple roll is lavender scented drawer liner sheets.. Smells really good. The pink Christmas wrapping paper is almost a full roll and it's 36 inches wide. This will be great for those bigger packages. The little Juicy Fruit tin will work to put money in for a gift to a child or adult you are trying to fool. The really small gift bag will work for for a gift card. Now for the cutest ever...A snowman that's a countdown to Christmas calendar. You move his nose to the number of days left until Christmas. But wait there is more.

Oh, there is a picture frame. I have a plan for that and I'll post about it later. You can get picture frames really cheap at the dump. This one has the glass too. Then the finale'. It's a Thirty One bag. It's a small one but I don't believe it has ever been used. Wow! I think it will work to keep some sewing supplies in when I'm ready to go out the door to a sewing bee.

Honestly, where can you get such good stuff for spending about 45 minutes scouring through some bins and boxes. But I do understand if you are not a hunter. As a Thrifty Sissy we have to keep our eyes open and be ready to bag a bargain no matter where it is.

It's good to be back online and I appreciate you stopping by. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and you are ready for a Happy Thrifty New Year!!!

"Old Quilt" Framed

Hello Thrifty Folks!

I hope all is well over at your house. It's been a busy season for us so I haven't posted very much lately but I'm so glad you stopped by for a visit.

How many of us have old quilts or pieces of quilts that we don't know what to do with? These quilts hold a sentimental place in our hearts. It could be the person who made them or the one who gifted us with them. We want to keep them but storage is limited. They may be so worn out we can't use them any more. So what do we to do with them?

Here is an idea I saw on Pinterest a few months back. They had a piece of a quilt framed and were using it for a bulletin board. If you are a quilter this would be a neat thing to have in your sewing room. If you don't quilt it would make a good picture to put on your wall. You could still have the quilt to remind you of the person near and dear to you and it wouldn't be stuck in the top of the closet or the bottom of a chest. You could write on the back of the frame the history of the quilt as a reminder to future generations.

This DIY only took about fifteen minutes with no tools required. First I laid the frame on an old cardboard box I found in the garage, traced it with a Sharpie and cut it out. Then I used it to mark the piece of quilt I wanted to frame. I sprayed adhesive on the back of the quilt so it would stick to the cardboard. All that was left to do was to insert it in the frame. I took a minute to write on the back of the cardboard what I remembered about the person who gave me the quilt. Even though the quilt was so worn it couldn't be used anymore a piece of it hangs on the living room wall honoring all the memories of it's time in our home.

Since I had all of the supplies needed except the frame, which I purchased at the Goodwill dump for a mere thirty cents, this qualifies for the most thrifty award so far this year!

You all stay "Thrifty" and have a wonderful day.
