A Little Taste of Spring
It only takes a little sliver of warm weather to bring out the spring in me. While I don't want to get out the rabbits and chickens, it is a treat to set a little something out. I decided to find the ribbon plate ( don't know what else to call it) and get out the dry erase markers. I found some happy ribbon in the ribbon box, added a bumble bee spring flower pic, rolled it all together, wrote a "cutesie" saying on the plate and here you have it. A cookbook holder works great to hold the plate.
If you don't have one of those ribbon plates, you can use any sort of plate. You can tie a bow and use scotch tape to attach it to your plate. The dry erase markers will work on them. Check around the house for some bright ribbon and maybe there is a couple of stray flowers laying around you could add to your decoration. No worry, remember you are a creative Thrifty Sissy. Just try something. It only has to be beautiful to you and the more you do creative things the more you will be able to do.

Thrifty Mason Jar
Here is a great idea for those old mason jars you have around the house. You can take some ribbon or strips of burlap or lace and hot glue it around the middle of the jar. Then tie some twine around the top. You can use this as a pencil holder or a vase for spring flowers or fill it with candy. I embroidered my initial on this piece of ribbon but you could stack two different widths of ribbon for the decoration or hot glue some decorative buttons on the front. I used the quart size jar. I could see using a couple of different size jars and putting candles in them for the patio table. This ribbon came from Hobby Lobby. They have several colors of this chevron pattern as well as some with other embellishments.
Let's get those jars out and get creative!

Thrifty Home and Furnishings
In the February issue of Country Living, there is a wonderful thrifty article, three boys, two parents and one 665 square foot cabin. I was mesmerized as I read this article. This family went broke through no fault of their own and lost pretty much everything. The amazing part is how the story ends with their new 665 square foot cabin. They designed and furnished it with things from thrift stores and things they did "for cheap". American ingenuity is a gift from God.
Carmella, the mom, has a great eye for a good find and she is extremely creative. They are brave and very courageous as they share the events which happened to them and how they recovered. What an encouragement to others who have experienced similar disasters. Thank goodness there are magazines who will print something which includes used and old hand me downs instead of only having ads from the prominent furniture stores.
This family represents the essence of thrifty. They are not only thrifty with their furnishings and decor but their square feet as well. Thank you, Country Living for this wonderful, eye opening article.Thank you, McCafferty family, for being real and sharing your loss so it may become our gain.
I hope you will rush out and buy the Country Living, February issue and get your thrifty fired up!
